What wards are there in Canberra now? When I was there as a missionary (in Woden), it was about a year or 2 before Canberra became a stake. I remember Peter Moir became the stake president back then and all the branches became wards but I haven't heard anything in the years since.

I am glad you asked Steve. I am in Woden, I joined the church 4 weeks before Canberra became a stake.
There are 4 wards and 2 branches in Canberra. Belconnen, Ginninderra, Tuggeranong and Woden Wards and we have Bega and Cooma Branches.
We used to have branches in Goulburn and Queanbeyan but due to the lack of active priesthood numbers to run those branches they were closed down.
As for Peter Moir, yes he was the first stake president. A wonderful man. He is currently living in Moe in Victoria. His son Matthew is the only one of his children that still lives in Canberra.

I knew the Moirs in Golbourn just before they moved to Canberra. It was kind of strange. When I was there, their sons Daniel and Jordan had just got their mission calls. When I came home, Daniel was in my ward. I had to get used to calling him Elder Moir and he had to get used to not calling me Elder O'Neil.

Yeah I agree with you about the Moirs. They moved into my ward just after I joined the church. Bronwen taught me how to conduct music and Peter was always willing to talk with me about any gospel topic.
